Quote from: "4dvti"Such a great build-up so far and inspiration for my next mk3 build! I hope you get the mechanical niggles sorted promptly.

Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thanks mate, appreciate the positive comments. I know it's not to most tastes on this forum as I've stripped a perfectly good car but it suits what I want to use it for! More to come I hope  s:) :) s:)

For what you'll be using it for, it's ideal. I quite fancy bucket seats myself now after seeing how good they look!

What kind of cage is that? I did look at the Custom Cages version but I believe it is not compatible with a hard top sadly.

It's from Performance and Protection. A few people have bought them now. Credit goes to Tim for the leg work.

It's basically the rear section of the full cage they supply to rouge Motorsport for the race cars. It's nicely made.

The custom cages cage is a no - go, please don't waste your time or money!

Hopefully, just a thermostat and you are good to go. Its always a bit of an odd one having an engine swap. There will be things that you think to yourself "while its out I'll replace..." but the trouble with that is that every new part is unproven until you run it for a while. Nothing the builder can do to avoid it, just a function of new parts and MTBF / reliability curves.

It'll be excellent once you have it up and running.
Ex 2GR-FE roadster. Sold it. Idiot.  Now Jaguar F-Type P450 75 Edition RWD. Officially over by the bins.

Absolutely, that's my way of thinking and am hopeful for a simple fix.

Unfortunately I won't be able to pick it up for a while because I'm away for a couple of weekends...as you say though, will be worth it  s:D :D s:D

We'll go down to pick it up together again.
Get Sian to bring the 350 next time.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

We'll see. I might trailer it back.

It's a 5hr round trip so I'll have to plan it in advance

looks great Mark, mine is going to end up being almost a carbon copy of yours given a bit more time... it's good to have this for the inspiration!

Thanks for the heads up. I've seen a photo of the full cage that Rogue Motorsport sell and I was glad to see that it fits snugly under the hardtop. Would you happen to have a price for one of them new or a ballpark figure? I did look on their website but couldn't see it anywhere and I don't want to call them up seeing as I've not committed myself to buying one yet.

Many thanks.

The rear section that I have is about £300 but I had to pay £100 to have it delivered on a pallet. So if you could pick it up it's better value.

I think the whole cage is around double that, but I didn't ask because I wasn't interested in one !

Fair play. I'll ask Gareth (Hybrids) next time he's online. He has the full cage in his race car.

Thanks again.

I have the full Rogue/P&P roll cage. Cost £650 plus the VAT - its expensive to deliver as Mark said (has to go on a pallet) so I picked mine up form Rogue myself. I'm getting mine welded in next week  s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:  !
Don't underestimate the work/compromise involved in having a full cage - literally everything needs to come out of the car to fit it, the welding is tricky (you have to patch various holes in the floor, and spend a lifetime scraping seal-sealer off first) and you have to bin the stock heater etc when you put it back together. It's also tricky to get in and out of, and you really do want to be wearing a helmet every time you drive it. Definitely only for a dedicated track car.

In an ideal world, i'd have gone full cage but everything above makes me happy I went for the right choice for me

Sorry if I missed it but does the hard top still fit?

yep, I only run a hard top.

I don't believe the soft top will fit though.

the roll over bar is simply the rear section of their full cage  s:) :) s:)

You have to get the Rogue hard-top mounting kit - you can't use the standard latches with the full cage.

With the 200sx we're working on some carbon stuff... I've not posted on sxoc yet, but we've basically got a full inlet system sorted:

We've also made a carbon bonnet, bumper blanking plates, rear and front passenger door cards, so I have a monster update to come some time soon... But nothing for the MR2 yet! I'm building the 2zz as you'll have seen from my thread about bearings, so I need to get on with that before August when my work car goes back... I'll get some of my stuff up when I've made a bit of progress..

Thanks! I know mate, Mr2zz (My new registered trademark   s:lol:  s:lol:  ) stuff would be awesome, though I need to finish off a bunch of projects I have on the go already (as well as my 2zz conversion) before I can contemplate anything else. I'll be up for suggestions at some point I'm sure, but I want to turn it into a part time business, so I have to pick projects wisely...  We'd have to find something that isn't too time consuming to make the pattern part, and can be made in as few pieces as possible, so that it can be sold at a sensible price. This type of inlet kit on a GTR or similar vehicle would be 2k ish (We'd refine the design, this was a learning experience for us) so obviously we're not going to do that for an MR2.

...but looking at cars like Mark's does tempt me to just plunge on in and whip out a bonnet and boot, and get a small fleet of us rocking it on track!
