Quote from: "Sadlebag"Track day sounds like a good plan, brands will be very well suited to the mr2.

Is the excitement building yet? I'm assuming you are driving the car home?

Would you be up for it too?

Yeah I am looking forward to it. I haven't used the car for about 7months so it'll be good to have a bit of fun.

Yes planning on driving it home, it's now road legal again, taxed, mot and insured!

That sump is looking lovely in there! I'm starting to like it over them leaky state moro sump...

I bet you can't wait to get the car back and start enjoying it more.

Went down to Patrick's place to pick up the car.

Well what can I say...lift is pretty good fun! And quite addictive!
Scotte also met us there so we went for a drive to familiarise myself with the car and enjoy the weather. We ( I saw we, I just followed in his tyre tracks) found some cracking roads and had a nice drive in sun. I've really missed the fun of the MR2!

Got a couple of teething problems with the car. We think the thermostat is sticking open so the car won't go into lift - because the ECU thinks it's cold (standard safety feature), the coolant temp seems very low on my auxiliary gauge and the dash gauge fluctuates a bit; they normally never move.

Going to take it back to Patrick this week to swap over the stat and check a coupe of things out...plus I robbed the coils from his Wife's car while fault finding so I need to give those back before she hunts me down  s:) :) s:)

It's very frustrating because that's a brand new thermostat! Typical....Assuming it is the stat, of course.

So, we are almost there. These things are set to try us and I shall try not to let it get to me too much. Thankful of Patrick's help, I'd be stuck without his knowledge that's for sure

That's disappointing...  s:? :? s:?

Yes, it is. Typical a part I bought new to replace because it seemed like a good idea, is giving me problems!

It might just need bleeding properly.

Could be the issue, although usually, overheating will be the issue, unless there is an airlock in the head / water pump preventing hot water reaching the temp sensor.

I did wonder about an airlock. I did stop at some services and open up the front bleed valve (with the plastic tube) and no air came out.

When I accelerate hard, the dash temperature gauge drops slightly off normal operating temperature and my aux water temp gauge (the sensor is fitted just after the thermostat in the rubber hose) was only showing about 60deg most of the time.
When we were testing the theory, we got it to go into lift when my aux gauge showed about 90deg C - which it only did after letting the car car sit with the engine hot and switched off for a short period, allowing some Heatsoak to set in.

Patrick's going to get another Thermostat and try it out next week

Does sound like thermostat. Original Toyota one?

No, it wasn't  s:( :( s:(

From GSF. Maybe lesson learnt.

Just thinking, you say your auxiliary sensor is fitted just after the thermostat in the rubber hose. That side of the thermostat is the coolant return side, so that sensor will be measuring the coolant temperature of water coming back from the radiator. It's not that one that's being used to feed the ECU is it? That would cause problems.

I thought that hose was the correct one to go for?

Anyway, no it's not feeding the ecu, it is just a temp sender going straight into an aftermarket gauge with no other connections

no its not using that sensor  the conversion uses all the Toyota sensors .

mark come back with it we scanned it no faults at all so we put a set coils on it then he went out in it again and went in to lift thought it might been coil failing at high revs but then  it done it again , so we took temps and it was low we did notice that the water pipes were not mega hot after a drive which. I get a Toyota thermostat  and swap that  I did take  my 2zz out after mark went and temp on my one are running at 83 when driving were marks is running at  a lot lower if you let it sit then go out in it. it goes in to lift once drive so it cools down then it stops going in to lift never come across  with this  on any 2zz  but . we get to the bottom of it

Spent a couple of hours this morning doing a few outstanding jobs, set my belts onto the new cage and trimmed and refitted my sill trims.

As you can see it finishes he sill threshold and also covers the cage feet a little (not that it needs it!)

I also set my go pro on the cage ready for some videos  s:) :) s:)  as you can see in the first picture. Gives a view very close to all my other videos.

Just need to put the passenger seat in now

Oh yeah, and the cherry on top...this little beauty

Can now put this on

Very cheesy I know but this car is just a bit of fun  s:) :) s:)

Gutted for you, I'd be fuming if I paid a professional to do a job and they gave it back with issues. A 2zz without lift is still a 1zz!
I bled my system myself when I changed the radiator so you might be better off giving it a good bleed yourself before going to the effort and expense of taking it back, would be worth ruling it out at least.

Patrick used the car for a full day once it was running and it was absolutely fine, and we proved it is fine by getting it warm. It is absolutely NOT his fault!

The thermostat (or whatever has failed) has failed since I picked it up.

And by the way a 2zz without lift is still faster than a 1zz I can assure you that!!

I'm gutted my car isn't running right but I am by no means fuming at anyone.

The car was working how it should as mark says its just one of these things ,  may be I should drove it around for a week and then gave it back and it mite showed up who knows .I am sorting it out for him  as for bleeding all the cars are vacuum bleed there is zero air in them ,  its just a part failed we took every step that you can take that was possible if it was new what more can you do . You will be surprised how many new bits fail quickly . The quality is not there anymore and I be in the trade for 30 yrs .  Seen it go down hill on parts . That all I got say the rest is between me and mark .

Completely agree, guys please don't think Patrick has done anything wrong; a part has failed (by the way I supplies all parts) and Patrick is doing everything he can to help.

There is nothing sinister or "bad" about it; he is offering the perfect service in terms of after sales support that you hope to get when you go to a professional.
