Will be lots of bits out the way this weekend whilst fitting the clutch and charge cooler, so going to give the engine bay a good clean..... Assuming I'm not swearing at the gearbox.

Be prepared to mess it up a few times.... I was getting frustrated yesterday, could not get it to work properly.
But it looks really good when it goes right, when the clear coat goes on it really brings out the colours.

One of my engineers has a gold carbon screwdriver set now... not sure if he wanted it but I will find out tomorrow

are you running the bigger injectors with the standard fuel system? i.e standard pressure and no return line?
what turbo kit do you have?
what chargecooler are you going for and finally what clutch are you fitting?
sorry for all the questions but i plan on do something similar to mine over the winter
mr2 2zz with T-Sport gearbox and 8200rpm Celica ECU, DIY lightweight exhaust, K&N Typhoon induction, MiesterR coilovers, Rear Strut Brace, Underbody brace, EBC Yellow stuff and braided hoses all round, Rota slipstream 16x7 6kg a corner, Lightweight optima battery, spare wheel, tools, radio & aerial removal. Ok.....
470cc Astra vxr injectors, standard fuel system but I have plans to fit fuel regulator and return line next.
It's the whifbitz turbo system but added turbosmart boost controller
Pwr charge cooler kit,
Whifbitz stage 2 Kevlar clutch as its torque rated to 280 ,that's plenty for a standard engine and it's not a paddle clutch so should be nice and drivable
Greddy emanage blue piggyback ecu

Today there has been some changes.....

It's not finished yet, didn't have a relay for the water pump and have got the frunk to put back together....
need to sort out the emanage tomorrow, played with the map a little as it changed everything so much it wouldn't even tick over properly.
But the difference is unbelievable,  soooooo quick.

There is an MR2 in there somewhere honest guv.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Very nice, like it a lot.

I always wondered if the rad would fit up front, are there water hoses running from the rad to the rear engine bay? I guess the pump needs to be quite manly to deal with that run of pipework?

Where do you run the pipes, under the car with the rad pipes?

Bet it flies now. I was surprised how much the intercooler made a difference. I upgraded the tubro, exhaust, injectors and map etc on a car a few years ago, and fitted what was the only FMIC (air to air) at the time, a twin pass core, so the inlet and outlet were on the same side, and was quite restrictive...and used 50% of the original pipework.

Later on, someone developed a single pass system, with all new pipework, and I fitted it. The instant difference in throttle response and boost was amazing. Like you, I had to get the map changed because it had changed so much.

I'd love a go in this car one day... And I'd love to see some RR figures. I know it doesn't really matter and accuracy etc, but I'm very interested to see how much power you have achieved by doing this all by yourself so quickly.

Very impressive  s:) :) s:)

The radiator went in a lot better than I thought.. It was like it was made for this car, fitted perfectly in between rad and bumper and is the same size as my grille.

The pipes were easy too, the original water pipes run down a channel under the car so ran mine along with them,

The pump is a big bosch one similar to the ones you get in motor homes,  it really moves the water around the system, I wired it up through a relay to a ignition live.

I've been playing with the map all morning and I'm happy now .. It's running at 11 psi.

Had to add 7% more fueling just to cover the density of air from the charge cooler. I've pulled the timing a little more because I'm worried about breaking something. and richened it up under boost for safety, it's running 14.5 afr in vacuum and 10.5 in boost.. I could get more torque but I've not got anything to properly monitor knock.

No idea what power it's pushing so need to get it on a RR.

Spoke to my mates yesterday about going to a RR near brands hatch as my mate with the TVR want to do his after some changes he has done and my mate with the Ferrari wants to do his too as he's had some bits changed.

Tidied up the engine bay a little but got loads of little bits to do over the next couple of months.

Then rebuild an engine over winter as mine thinks oil is free....but probably built to stand spec as this is more than quick enough

Come on lee don't quit now if your going to rebuild may as well go for low comp pistons and forged rods.

You do realise the prime reason to own a 2 is to actually drive it not continually tinker with it?

Well done mate most things you do seem to turn out well.

I stripped and rebuilt mine and you've gone places I dare not yet!! I left the block in the car, took the pan off & popped the pistons out the top! I say go for it!
Good job though, I really need this in my life! Time to make a shopping list!!
I'm not saying I'm batman. I'm just saying that nobody has ever seen me and batman in a room together.

Had the day off today so have been out in the 2 all day with the missus,

Really pleased with the difference the charge cooler has made.... No idea the technical reasons behind the changes but I suppose cooler in means cooler out,

My oil is 15 deg c cooler,
After fitting the turbo my water temp sat at just above half, now its back to just below like it was before the turbo,
My fuel consumption is better
I can properly cruise at 60 now without the car surging... It drives smooth.

All in all really pleased

Cool air is dense! Plus the effects of. Heatsoak will be less. It's a lot healthier for the engine to have lower temps too.

Great pic  s:) :) s:)

Really pleased today.... took my mate out in the 2.. He was shocked with the difference and thinks his TVR would struggle to get away from it now!!!... One word. Chuffed
