Not surprising TVRs struggle to get out of the garage  s;) ;) s;)
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I know what you mean Scott. ... tvr's spend a lot of time in pieces or waiting for the mortgage to come through to fill it with petrol.  :-) :-) :-)

I've been collecting equipment and supplies all week.
Today had a load of plastidip delivered..

The car is going to get transformed this weekend...
With a 3 stage satin pearl plastidip

Assuming I do it right!... I've been watching YouTube video's all week.

And it's far from blue...

Pics will follow   s:D :D s:D

When I fitted the charge cooler, it left me very restricted for space and had to fit the maf onto the silicone bend.
I am really not happy with how it's fitted, so had something delivered today that will hopefully solve the problem and help with many other problems and mods.

This will be my project to build in a few weeks when my missus goes visiting family for a few weeks.

I've got no idea of the possibilities or how to use it but I am confident my computer skills will see me through with a little 3d modelling..... Probably,

Assuming I build it right, this is it

Ps.... Plastidipping the car this evening so will take plenty of photos... Opened the main colour tin and omg it's a bright colour!

Cheers stu, been a loooong time since I used cad,   s:D :D s:D

My first priority will be a 2.5" 90degree tube with a maf fitting in it, as short as it can be as I don't have a lot of room.

Ok.... so the plastidip was a disaster ...

Really bad choice of spray gun, I used a bosch decorating gun. It put on a litre of the stuff in about 10 seconds....
even on its lowest settings.. It smothered on the plastidip then blew it everywhere, I really couldn't control it. Looked awful but like an idiot carried on trying to do it
It also reacted for some weird reason in 2 large places on my front bumper and lifted the paint.
so I've got a job to remove the plastidip from my car and also respray the front bumper..

Wasn't happy because the wasted money and extra eork ive created for myself but meh.. everything can't be perfect all the time.  And I blame my equipment   s:wink:  s:wink:
, I've got a new plan.... I am going to spray the front bumper with a chameleon flip.. If it turns out ok, I'm going to spray the full car..
I'm doing this because of stone chips on the bonnet and a scratch down one side.. I need to do something I'm not happy looking at a scratch.

So bring on plan b..

Congratulation of getting the printer! I've been using mine (leapfrog creatr) to 3d print stuff for the mr2 for quite a while now and going to install my new rear lights I made using it tomorrow as I painted them today   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

You have to bear in mind that the glass transition point of ABS is about 100c and starts to go soft after this.... so I wouldn't advise going near the engine or exhaust with anything.
I'm not saying I'm batman. I'm just saying that nobody has ever seen me and batman in a room together.

Cheers, it will be fun I think.. Engineering is my job and computers have been my hobby for years, my pc is a monster so 3d modelling will be no problem at all. I'm looking forward to building the printer more than actually using it   s:lol:  s:lol:

The lights you have been making look really good too!

Ordered the chameleon pigment today, so when it comes I will spray the front bumper to see how it turns out... If it's good I will do the full car.. My spraying is not to bad now and I've got a posh new spray gun which is loads better quality than the screwfix cheapy I have used previous and got a real nice finish on the rear bumper and spoiler. Also have a pressure regulator now so no frigging the compressor which was less than ideal, was not really a constant pressure.

As for the plastidip,  remember people... That image you have in your head is not always how things always turn out, but there is always a plan B   s:D :D s:D
These body specialists and engine tuners etc... Have years of experience and training, I'm just an average joe doing most things for the first time to see what I can achieve myself.. Hopefully enspire some people to try something they did not think possible themselves.

This is the chameleon colour I have chosen...  s8) 8) s8)

haha same! Though I went engineering and onto IT
I downgraded to a 4ghz i5-4670k, 8gb with a 670gtx and a pair of SSDs for modelling because I wanted a quiet pc and that seems to hold up just fine! The computer that runs the printer is an i5-760. It was a laptop but I liked to play around with the models on the printer bed to get them in the best position.... I found an i3 or less just didn't cut it. Choppy frame rate is annoying!
If you need any tips with the printer, give me a shout. You might find the fist few come out ok and then you get all sorts of jams etc until you get the settings just right.

Thanks mate, I fitted them today! Just waiting for disk to get some light's on pics and then I'll put them up!

Oh that paint looks awesome! Although, I love my matte! Once you go black you never go back!
What gone did you get? I used a mains powered Wagner to do my plastidip and that did the job spot on! Trick is to practice on something first to get the flow right. I'm stripping it and going to paint this summer hopefully.

Yeah cheers for that!... Got some ideas for stuff to make for the mr2.. But to be honest I wanted the printer because I am obsessed with new technology, I built my pc last year to run an oculus rift and it needed to be a real monster to get 75fps.
I can't even remember the spec now it's a i7 9 something , 64gb crucial memory, 980gtx all liquid cooled with ssd's, it's got 7 fans but to be honest it's almost silent the fans are really nice. So I think a bit of 3d modelling should not be a problem fo it.. I also have a Lenovo gaming pc which is i7 , 840m so would probably be more convenient as I can relax on the settee   s:D :D s:D

Any software suggestions would be welcome as I've not looked into any of that side of things yet!

My missus goes visiting family in about 3 weeks so saving the build until then to keep me occupied...

I got it to make a better holder for my tablet. Now i've used it to make loads of stuff! From a centre console to an adapter to fit a new lampshade in my room! Awesome bits of kit!
haha so you've gone for "the beast" I've cramped all mine in one of those micro itx cases (node 304) I use to game a lot (quake > Q2 > Q3 BF > wow > bf3 >bf4) but now I just use it for 3d cad work. That's why I downscaled. I am very interested in oculus rift, that's when I will upgrade again. It need to be able to render like a champ! At least 60fps over twice the set resolution (1 screen per eye) otherwise you get motion sickness.

Scketch-up isn't too bad for a free-be but I worked on autocad a lot in the past so I kind-of stuck with that. It's a bit cumbersome though. Best thing to do is go around getting all the fee ones and give them a go!
Also, get  this: http://www.netfabb.com/ when you make the STL files use this programme to do a "repair" on them. This will solve any errors that may happen in the export process.

Assuming the pigment gets delivered before the weekend I already have a litre of clearcoat, more than enough to do the front bumper, 300ml to mix the chameleon pigment up and 300ml to clearcoat after the colour should do it. Just need to buy some black base to go on first.
Then I will do the bumper to see how it turns out, at least I know I can manage a decent job with normal paint,

My gun is this one, still a cheap one but feels a lot better quality than the 20 quid screwfix one I've been using up to now.
 m https://www.cromwell.co.uk/STA2591100C m

I think the colour is the same as the tvr one.

Looking forward to seeing how the bumper turns out.
I bought 75 grams of the pigment so enough to make 3 litres of paint. More than enough for the full car.

The gun I used for the plastidip was a bosch decorating gun, it had a low blowing setting for painting fences and a higher blowing setting for painting interior walls and 5 settings for the paint flow. I had everything on its lowest settings and it still went through a litre in about 10 seconds. I would have had more control over the flow if I had opened the tin of paint and threw it at the car.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Yeah I will have a look at some free ones first just to have a play.
motion sickness with the oculus is bad. I never had it in my life until I got the oculus, you need a steady 75fps, 74 and you get sick.... fast.
but it is amazing, there is nothing like it. I had grown men at work screaming like little girls playing horror games, I can honestly say you do not know fear until playing a horror game on the oculus, it is spine chillingly realistic.  I got rid of mine about a month ago whilst the developer kit is still fetching good money, I have had my fill of it and will buy the consumer version when it comes out.

After looking at a few YouTube videos the printer has so many possibilities,  looking forward to playing with it, but first is spraying the car.
