Lee, a good tip if your doing a met black respray, do all the shuts straight gloss black, then shut the doors and lids, foam mask all the shuts and spray everything on the outside with the met Base and clear. That way you don't have to do all the nitty gritty bits with lots of coats. You'll barely notice the difference when looking. Worth thinking about.

Just realised I'm talking nonsense. That's a satin clear colour isn't it.....

Good bloody luck mate! You know you can't correct mistakes with satin clears don't you? That means no flatting,  no polishing no blending etc. Any runs or sags are there to stay! And your gun finish has to be spot on. Your a braver man than me. Hope it turns out well for you though!

Yeah, was thinking a satin clear coat over black base.

I'm not expecting it to be easy.. lots of prep. But when I did the chameleon,  I could not flat it or anything, just spray and hope for the best.
By the time I got to the back half, I'd got the hang of it. Didn't even need to flat the clear coat. It is now as it was when I sprayed it. The front wings are a little dry but gets better to the rear.

How much extra weight so you think you have in paint Lee?  s;-) ;-) s;-)  

Is painting and repainting something that you have done with other cars or is it just the 2 that is doing this to you?

Just been reading this thread, new member, wow, so much work done in a short space of time, and for someone who says that he hasn't got a clue, manages a wide spectrum of tasks. But my biggest question is how did he get so much stuff when at the beginning said he was broke? I need to be that broke  s:D s:D    s:D s:D    s:D s:D

Lol, never said I was broke....didn't really have disposable money, I spent the money I had to buy a new everyday car, but meh I managed another year out the Saab. I will be definitely replacing it this year. Coming up to 200k on the clock and the last 2 month cost me an alternator, starter motor, fuel pump and a battery. Needs to go.


Update on the 2, dropped it off today for the exhaust, having a 200 cell sports car fitted as the co is too high for mot, and the rest replaced with a straight through system exiting either side of the number plate. Modifying the cross bar behind the bumper to give room for the fancy exit.
And a few other little jobs being done.

Then maybe soon, full respray matte black and fitting grilles into front bumper etc.

Believe me if it was a choice between paying for it and doing it myself, I would be doing it myself.
But my mate owns a fabrication company and offered to do it for me, they like playing with cars. So how could I refuse, I've seen some of their spare time projects and they are the nuts!

Are those 3" or 4" pipes Lee?

Have you gone through the bumper beam or have you removed it?

4" stu, but it's just the tailpipes the system is 3" and welded in a 200 cell sports cat as my co was too high for mot
Went through the beam, cut a square out about 3/4 way through, plated the cut out then welded a reinforcing bridge over the top.

Yeah I always like the look of it too.. Don't know about performance though only drove it about 300m, Ive got to sort out the mot,
Got a split cv boot, rear brake pads and a number plate light bulb to do, then get it in.
I put it on the emissions machine a couple of weeks ago and it was high co, so prompted me into doing something with the exhaust.

I've got 2 gallons of black plastidip also, so might paint it first then mot, no rush in this weather!

I forgot to take pictures whilst it was in pieces, the exhaust is all wrapped up now so can't see much.

But the beam is clever, will try to squeeze some pics when I get chance.

Not sure when I will get it mot'd I'm busy the next few weeks.
