My son had his van tuned by altering his ECU, on his van it has made a big noticeable difference, it has been tuned so that it will still be reliable, I haven't noticed anything like that for the Roadster, also would it be worth it.

NA tuning will give you a bit of extra power, most people get a Power FC (standalone ECU) or go with a piggyback unit like an E-manage ultimate, you will get more gains out of a remap with a turbo, gains on an NA car aren't great - guessing your sons van is also a diesel as modern diesels remap really well.

Check the below thread for examples of what others have got out of their car NA:

Anything turbo or turbo diesel will see good gain in both performance and efficiency.
They leave a big margin for error in the tune for dodgy fuel and bodgey maintenance.
NA engines isnt really worth it.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

My sons van is a turbo diesel, that's why he noticed a good improvement I guess, not really worth doing to mine then, mine is bog standard.

You can't tune/remap the toyota ecu. You have to go for an after market solution and then tune it. It gets expensive very quickly with very little gains on a standard engine.
New little car to follow soon

Ex 2zz by Rogue. Se7en cams. BMC CDA. Competion clutches lightened flywheel, Megillian Racing Exhaust. TRD sportivo suspension and ARB\'s. TRD braces. TRD quick shift. TRD dash kit, Matts brace. Getting there but not sure when it will stop!
