The better to apply that penetrating oil (and because I needed them anyway) I bought a 2 tonne jack and 2 jackstands today.

I was planning to buy a set of ramps (easier in the end) but, get this: the ones at Halford's are approved for maximum wheel sizes of 185 x 14".

WTF?!

Anyway, tomorrow will be the second application of the penetrating oil.

Looking forward to the meetup!

I can't get hold of an O2 sensor socket. I naively assumed Halfords/local motor stores would carry one, but they don't. I've got the penetrating oil but have no way of removing the sensors.  s:( :( s:(

So I'll have a go at ordering one from t'internet, but I doubt very much that I'll have it by the weekend. So I'm going to let my place go this time, and make sure I'm better prepared next time.

Mark, the speaker rings WILL happen!  s:roll:  s:roll:

However, I'm in Crete the first two weeks of August...  s:? :? s:?

Uh oh.  Is this something I'm supposed to have bought?  What is it?  Where can I get one (or as many as needed)?

I've only got the stuff on the original list in the first post in the thread.

Don't you need to remove the heatshield to get to the bolts underneath?  s:? :? s:?

depends, you can get to them from below but it means getting under teh car and spraying upwards. It's doable though

Yeah, its doable from underneath (at least I hope I got all of them).  That's what I had to do in the end when i couldn't remove the last bolt on the heat shield (after 2 hours of trying!!).  Also, I have begun to round the remaining bolt.  My ratchet can still grip it but don't know how many more goes I can have before the bolt becomes completely useless. Any one have any tips?

I'm going to try and spray the remaining bolt every day in the hope that it will loosen.

Cheers

I managed with a spanner. You have to remove one sensor to get the heatshield off. Take the mounting bolts off, lift up and use a standard open ended spanner to take the O2 sensor out. Trying to recall the metric size; Mark  s:?: :?: s:?:

Mark

Considering its "early" Saturday, would you recommend A405/A414 from M25 through Chiswell Green across to A1, or stick to M25 until reach A1.

Last time I came I did latter because it was rush hour and I fancied staying on "better" roads, but I am wondering about the more direct route?

Thanks

Roger

6am at yours then Mark?  s;) ;) s;)

No chance of being able to do my CATs anyhow now, as I didn't get chance to order the gaskets etc, and I'm up in Sheffield now.. But I'll still come along to lend a hand/laugh when people slice themselves open/etc if that's alright with you Mark?

Hmm.. I'll start another thread about Toymota dealers in Sheffield elsewhere  s;) ;) s;)

Cool - cheers Mark  s:) :) s:)  I'll see if I can't get a set while I'm up here anyhow, since even if we don't do them on Saturday, I might be tempted to have a whack at it the following weekend myself  s:) :) s:)

Got the car jacked up, diaper off and was able to spray all of the bolts.  Those photos were amazingly helpful.  But everything looks so much smaller and closer together in real life. s:? :? s:?

Got one of the two bolts I tried on the cover to move straight away.  The other will probably have to wait for the penetrating oil to do its thing.  But I'm optimistic I might not break any of them off on the day.  s:shock:  s:shock:

So will I later on. Got a Canon Ixus 700 last week but took it on the boys weekend to Poland so it is already branding a few scratches  s:? :? s:?
